Metaphors of friendship are apparently proposed as an alternative to FAMILY metaphors, as the one capable of accommodating diversity, to some extent it can also be chosen, and indeed we can question the extensibility of friendship but having on mind the enemy as well, which friends should be sharing. Much more than the family metaphor model would have, indeed. Friendship metaphors in politics are unitary metaphors, representing people with unified perspectives, common purposes, positive emotions, homogeneity of the people (with exclusion of enemies, or certain groups).
