Metaphors of hope give us ideological thoughts that it is an ideal, perhaps even utopian future that satisfies personal desires. Why is it important that citizens have or adopt certain hopes? The most obvious is that hope may be instrumentally valuable, it can play an important motivational role, enabling citizens to maintain their resolve to pursue political goals. Mapping the present and the future through hope, reduces the distance between still unrealized perspectives and the present.
